Network Updates

2004

September 8, 2004

Major routing issues with our connection to Portland to our AT&T upstream T3, starting at 6:15 p.m. The connection issues caused problems reaching most Internet sites. We then had a completely different and separate issue with the Augusta and Portland area SNS PRI dialup hubs between approximately 7 p.m. and 8 p.m., resulting in periods of busy signals for customers served from those areas, due to equipment failure and the need to reboot access servers. Dial-up customer IP routing was restored with a work-around at approximately 9 p.m., while we worked to resolve the root cause. The true root cause of the issues was ATM backbone network stability problems at AcadiaNet, our connectivity vendor to Portland. AcadiaNet stabilized their network at approximately 10:15 p.m. A more detailed report will follow, and outage credits will be issued to customers.

August 21, 2004

Due to a power issue, all dial-up servers were terminated on 08/21/04 starting at approximately 08:59:36, and lasting until approximately 09:47:00, an outage of approximately 48 minutes. We have added a redundant power supply to address the issue, while we await delivery of replacement equipment.

August 17, 2004

Due to a failing UPS system that caused a cascade of system failures, all dialup services were terminated on 8/16/04 at approximately 21:40:34, and were down until approximately 22:11:19, an outage of approximately 31 minutes. The failing UPS caused a number of servers and a router serving a critical backhaul link to loose power, which is what terminated the dialup sessions. We are taking steps to address the issue, and do not expect it to occur again. We apologize for the downtime.

August 13, 2004

We experienced a routing problem between approximately 9:00 p.m. and 11:15 p.m. Certain parts of the Internet were inaccessible during this period of time.

August 13, 2004

On Saturday, August 14th and Sunday, August 15th we will be performing system maintenance between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. If you are using a DialMaine connection during this time you might get disconnected at some point in time. These outages should last approximately 5 to 10 minutes.

June 18, 2004 | 2:30pm

Verizon is having troubles with calls in the greater Lewiston area. There is an open trouble ticket with Verizon. Customers in the Lewiston area may have difficulting connecting until this is resolved.

June 15, 2004

Update: The e-mail issues were resolved around 4:00 p.m.

We are currently having problems with an SMTP relay server which is resulting in very large delays in the delivery of e-mail. We will be adding new servers today in order to fix this problem. Although your e-mail may be delayed, these problems will not result in the loss of any e-mail.

February 11th, 2004

We experienced a brief primary DNS server outage tonight, for a total of 21 seconds, between 20:37:58 and 20:38:19

January 11th, 2004 | 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

A DS3 trunk group outage affected dial-up service for most customers in the greater Augusta area, as well as parts of the Bangor area. Verizon could not find the source of the issue, but a physical trunk reset worked. Customers in those areas were unable to connect at all, or were knocked offline during this time.

January 2nd, 2004 | approximately 7:30 p.m. - 8:58 p.m.

We experienced intermittent dial-up network issues. Users had slow connections, or "connect, no surf" type issues. The problem appears to have been a software bug, which was addressed by rebooting the primary access concentrator. Service was restored at 8:58 p.m.
